I picked up this hair Masque when I picked up the Jamaican Castor Oil because it was a BOGO 50% on the Shea Moisture line at Ulta. I thought I would stick to the Castor oil theme! This is a bit of a labor intensive Masque as they instruct you to shampoo hair before applying. Instructions say: “After shampooing, apply a generous amount of the strengthening masque from root to ends. Pay particular attention to hair ends. Comb through for even distribution. Place a plastic cap over hair and sit under a warm dryer for 10-15 minuets. May be left on hair up to 20 minutes without heat. Rinse thoroughly. Style as usual.” I haven’t used the warm dryer technique and instead do the 20 min without heat method. I put this mask on/in my hair before I run and then rinse it out in the shower post run. The mask itself is VERY thick (like butter or cream cheese). It doesn’t take much to coat my whole head in product but it isn’t easy to apply due to its consistency. It smells amazing though! It has a sweet vanilla scent with an underlying smell that reminds me of Playdoh. It is easy to rinse out afterwards and does leave the hair feeling soft and healthy. However, I haven’t noticed any amazing long term effects of this mask. I was hoping it would help with the dryness and buildup on my scalp, but it doesn’t. The packet is big and is full and puffy...there is a lot of product in there. I transferred it to a container (I hate foil packets) which made it easier to apply. It has taken me all summer and into fall to finish the mask up (using it one or two times a week), so you definitely get your money’s worth from the packet. I have many other hair masks to try, so I don’t think I will repurchase. I did enjoy this mask, and it did make my hair feel softer, but I am looking for more of a scalp treatment or a thickening product.
