If it was a Warthog, Rockethog, Gausshog, or Forgehog I included it and consider them Warthogs Exceptions: * 97187 was a reissue of the 96923 Rockethog vs Anti Aircraft Gun set. Since I had the original (96923) earlier set I ignored the reissue in that case. ** I also ignored the warthog that could be cobbled together by sacrificing the EVA Last stand set and another set. It’s cool to make another set but as far as I’m concerned building a non released set by sacrificing hard to acquire sets isn’t worth my trouble and I’ll lose absolutely no sleep over it. My collection features plenty of rare and hard to get sets and I’m proud of it. I’m also done looking at it and this video I produced as a by-product of the process to pack the sets away in bins to be archived long term. 96937 Eva’s Last Stand (2011)
Hog Sunday!!!!! Working on Warthog #10 today for my built fleet of Warthogs released by MegaBloks and MegaConstrux. Today’s build is a controversial one for me. MegaBloks 96937 EVA’s Last Stand 169pcs 2011 Features 3 figures.. EVA Spartan Covenant Hunter x2 This is a set I resisted buying at all. When I started buying Warthogs I just hard the Dual Mode and the Arctic CTF unit. Loved them both and decided I wanted more. At the time I wasn’t attempting to get them all. Just maybe the ones I liked. Then I started finding deals.. joining Facebook groups in foreign languages and eventually got to a point where I was maybe at 75% complete for collecting all Warthogs. But I still had no intention of buying the EVA’s Last Stand set. It doesn’t produce a complete Warthog car. To me it’s just a playset. But a local Kijiji deal popped up for a cheap used set with apparently all parts, unused sticker sheet and manual and box in passable condition so I jumped on it. That was in the summer. 96923 UNSC Rockethog vs Anti Aircraft Gun (2011)
Finished Warthog #9... 96923 UNSC Rockethog vs Anti Aircraft Gun (2011) MegaBloks 96923 (appears to be the same as set 97189) 551pcs Set “11” 10 years Anniversary Features 4 figures.. UNSC Hazop Spartan UNSC Marine Covenant Ascetic Elite Jump Pack Brute This was a really great build. Not sure if I’ve said that before about a MegaBloks set from this era or not. But it’s true. So far this had the largest, most elaborate covenant build I’ve done yet. Not a fan generally of the covenant or their color schemes but this anti aircraft gun is gorgeous for what it is. Definitely playset feel (for the covenant gin set) but it displays well from all angles. The 2 covenant figures are beautiful as well. This would be one of those sets that would drive LEGO purists crazy with the MegaBloks philosophy of moulding custom parts for a build and not probably never using them again. I’ll tell you the truth as a lego guy I’d find it hard trying to do some of the details and shapes in pure LEGO at that scale. Now.. the reason I bought the set.. the Warthog. It’s just beautiful. A realistic darker army green with some (but not a lot) of MegaBloks “marbling” effect. The vehicle itself apparently is pretty faithful to the Halo 2/3 design. The figures for the UNSC are equally beautiful. These figures, with their details and paint jobs look so good. They look like high quality miniatures with details and “wash” effects. 96805 UNSC Rocket Warthog (2010)
Had a heck of a time with this build tonight. Solid and slick build and no loose parts. But I did have to get creative as I was missing a single MegaBloks cheese slope. So I created one out of a LEGO slope and a 1x1 plate. Then I use a marker and some cleaning solution to give it a similar cano marble effect to the original MegaBloks parts. Came out ok. Good enough until a replacement part arrive. Mega Brands Inc customer service earned themselves a fan today when I opened my mail to find that a replacement sticker sheet and parts for a 9yr old set arrived today. Halo 96823 will now be 100% perfect. This was my first experience with their customer service online. I filled in the web forms and a 8 days later I have an 9yr old sticker sheet and parts. I had little or no real expectation. But I was pleasantly surprised.
